West Ham United have appointed former midfielder Scott Parker as their new head coach on a two-and-a-half-year contract, replacing Nuno Espirito Santo following the club’s disappointing start in the Championship.
The 46-year-old Englishman previously guided Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley to promotion to the Premier League. However, he had been without a club since leaving Burnley last April following their relegation from the top flight.
Parker will make his debut as West Ham head coach against Cardiff City on Wednesday. He will be assisted by first-team coaches Steve Potts, Gerard Prendergast and Billy Lepine. Former teammate Mark Noble, the club’s sporting director, will also work closely with him.
Speaking after his appointment, Parker said, “It is an incredibly proud moment for me to take on this role. It feels great to return to a club that means so much to me and my family.”
He also spoke about his special bond with West Ham supporters.
“The warmth, love and emotion I have experienced here are something I have probably never found anywhere else. My relationship with the supporters has always been special. The respect and warmth they have shown me from the very beginning have been incredible,” he added.
