Violent land dispute leaves 20 injured in Char Fasson

At least 20 people, including women, were injured in a violent clash between two rival groups over a land dispute in Char Fasson upazila of Bhola.

The incident took place at Khas Pukur Par in Ward No. 2 of Jahanpur Union under Shashibhushan Police Station.

Locals rushed the injured to Char Fasson Upazila Health Complex and other local hospitals.

Among them, six people suffered severe injuries. They were identified as Farid Uddin, 35, Aktar Begum, 40, Rashida Begum, 38, Samiya Begum, 18, Sakawat, 32, and Muslima Begum, 28, all residents of Jahanpur.

Local sources said the two factions had a long-standing dispute over the ownership and possession of a piece of land near Khas Pukur Par. Tensions flared up in the morning when one group went to harvest jute plants from the disputed land.

When the opposing group protested, an argument broke out. The dispute quickly escalated into violence as both sides, armed with native weapons, sticks, and sharp tools, attacked each other.

The hour-long chase and counter-chase turned the area into a battlefield, leaving at least 20 people injured.

Hospital emergency doctors reported that several victims sustained deep wounds on their heads and bodies from sharp weapons. Six critically injured individuals were admitted to the health complex, while several others were referred to Bhola District Sadar Hospital and Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for advanced treatment. The remaining injured received primary care.

Upon receiving news of the violence, a team from Shashibhushan Police Station arrived at the scene and restored order. Additional police officers have been deployed in the area to prevent further violence.

Shashibhushan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Firoz Ahammad confirmed the incident, stating that police promptly stabilized the situation. He added that Shafiullah Member filed a written complaint on behalf of one group, and legal action will be taken following a thorough investigation.
