According to locals, electricity supply had remained suspended in Phulbari upazila under the Kurigram-Lalmonirhat Rural Electricity Association from Thursday morning until the afternoon. Due to the intense heat, many residents were staying outside under the shade of trees. Akimun was also standing under the shade of a bamboo grove in front of his home, chatting with neighbors.

Neighbors rescued him in critical condition and rushed him to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared him dead.
Dr. Hafizul Islam, Resident Medical Officer at Phulbari Upazila Health Complex, confirmed the death and said, ''the student had died from electrocution before he could be brought to the hospital."
