CHATTOGRAM, Aug 29: Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Mohammad Amirul Haque has expressed his gratitude and appreciation for APM Terminals’ investment in the Laldia Container Terminal project.
In a letter sent on behalf of the Chamber’s board of directors and the business community to APM Terminals Chairman Robert Maersk Uggla on Saturday, the Chamber president said the investment of about US$750 million by APM Terminals, one of the world’s leading port operators, in the Laldia Container Terminal would further enhance Bangladesh’s image as a safe and profitable investment destination in the global arena.
He said the far-reaching impact of the project would not be limited to the construction of a terminal; rather, the presence of one of the world’s leading terminal operators would play an effective role in attracting more foreign direct investment (FDI) to Bangladesh.
In addition, highlighting Chattogram’s potential to become a regional investment and logistics hub due to its strategic geographical location, the Chamber president urged A.P. Moller-Maersk and APM Terminals to play a role in implementing larger infrastructure projects in Chattogram and Bangladesh, particularly investments in bay terminals, shipbuilding and large-scale industries, as well as supporting the government’s goal of turning Bangladesh into a trillion-dollar economy by 2034.
On the occasion of the groundbreaking ceremony of APM Terminals Laldia, the Chamber president congratulated A.P. Moller-Maersk and APM Terminals and assured them of the Chittagong Chamber’s necessary cooperation for the successful and speedy implementation of the project.
