A low-pressure system has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal, prompting authorities to hoist local warning signal No. 3 at all four seaports amid the possibility of gusty winds over the sea and coastal areas.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD)issued the maritime warning on Saturday, saying the low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and northern Odisha.

The system may move west-northwestwards, while its influence could trigger gusty winds over the seaports, the north Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of Bangladesh.

The Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to display local warning signal No. 3.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and navigate with caution until further notice.

Meanwhile, the weather forecast valid until 9AM Sunday says many areas of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and some areas of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds.
