Farmers get saplings at Bhanga, Fakirhat

Different types of saplings were distributed among farmers through separate programmes in Bhanga Upazila of Faridpur District and Fakirhat Upazila of Bagerhat District on Sunday.

BHANGA, FARIDPUR: Various types of saplings were distributed among farmers in Bhanga Upazila of the district under the “Partnership in BRAC Bank-DAE Agricultural Development” project. 

Faridpur-4 Constituency MP Shahidul Islam Babul attended the ceremony as the chief guest on Sunday at an Eidgah field near the bus stand in Hamirdi Union of the upazila.

Deputy Director (DD) of LISASA Agriculturist Nazrul Islam, DD of Faridpur DAE Agriculturist Shahaduzzaman, and Upazila BNP General Secretary Ayub Molla attended it as special guests. Agriculturist Md Khayer Uddin Molla, Additional Director of the DAE, Faridpur region, chaired the event.

Speakers said agriculture is a key driver of Bangladesh’s economy. They emphasised that initiatives such as providing farmers with modern technology, improved agricultural inputs and tree saplings can contribute to sustainable agricultural development. 

MP Babul said overall development of the country is not possible without improving farmers’ livelihoods. He welcomed the distribution of quality saplings and urged government and private organisations to continue supporting farmers.

Nazrul Islam urged farmers to make the best use of the initiative, while Khayer Uddin Molla emphasised environmentally friendly farming and proper care of the saplings.

Guests later handed the saplings to farmers. Organisers said similar initiatives will continue to support farmers and improve agriculture and the environment.

FAKIRHAT, BAGERHAT: As part of the tree-planting programme of the government, the Bahirdia-Mansa Union Parishad (UP) in Fakirhat Upazila of the district distributed fruit-bearing, timber and medicinal tree saplings on Sunday.

At that time, five saplings each were distributed to 360 families, totalling 1,800 saplings, on the UP premises. Fakirhat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Rokonuzzaman handed over the saplings to the families.

Among others present were Upazila Project Implementation Officer and UP Administrator Imrul Kayes, Assistant Programmer Md Alamgir Hossain, UP Administrative Officer Md Sohel Rana, UP members Rabindranath Halder Batul, Khan Zahid Hasan and Dhali A Khaleque, and Female UP member Shahanara Khatun.
