Three, including woman, injured in random shooting in Dhaka

Three people, including a woman, were injured in random gunfire allegedly carried out by criminals in the capital’s Gandaria area on Sunday evening (August 30).

The incident took place near an office in Gandaria, and the injured were subsequently rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

The injured were identified as tea stall owner Alamgir, 33, passerby Siam, 18, and Asha Akter, 20. Siam sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest near the shoulder, Alamgir was shot in the forehead, and Asha was hit by a bullet in her right thigh.

Siam said he lives in the Jatrabari area and works at a hotel. He had gone to his aunt’s tea stall in Munshirtek, Gandaria, in the evening. When a fight suddenly broke out on the road, he was closing the shop’s shutter from inside when a bullet struck the left side of his chest near the shoulder.

Alamgir’s wife, Jannati Akter, said her husband also runs a tea stall in the area. When a fight and gunfire broke out in front of the shop, he was inside when he was shot in the middle of his forehead.

Asha Akter said she lives in the same area and was caught in the middle of the altercation while walking along the road. A bullet struck her right thigh. However, she could not identify who was involved in the shooting.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH Police Camp, confirmed the incident and said the three gunshot victims were receiving treatment in the hospital’s emergency department.

The matter has already been reported to the relevant police station, and legal proceedings are underway.
