Mintu takes charge as BKSP football Technical Director 

 
Experienced Bangladesh coach Zulfiqar Mahmud Mintu has taken charge as the technical director of the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) football department, bringing a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the country's premier sports academy.

The AFC Pro Licence holder assumed his new role on Tuesday on a one-year contract. The technical director's post is a new addition to BKSP's football structure, created as part of the current sports administration's effort to make the academy's football operations more dynamic, systematic and modern.

Mintu's brief extends beyond the training ground. He will oversee the technical aspects of player development and formulate and implement plans for BKSP's football centres in Sylhet and Khulna.

"My job will be to implement the technical aspects of footballer development," Mintu told Jago News. "BKSP has several branches, with football currently operating in Sylhet and Khulna. We also have to formulate and implement plans for the development of football at these two branches."

The 52-year-old's most recent club assignment came in the 2024-25 season, when he served as head coach of Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Abahani before taking charge of Sheikh Russel, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Chattogram Abahani and Saif Sporting Club. He has also served as an assistant coach of the national team.

As a player, Mintu was a familiar face in Bangladesh's national colours, while his domestic career included spells with Abahani, Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra and Brothers Union. He retired from international football in 2004 and ended his playing career in 2006 after turning out for Badda Jagarani Club.

Now, with the boots firmly hung up, Mintu faces a different challenge to helpe BKSP turn promising youngsters into the finished article.
