A man has been hacked to death in Chattogram over what police describe as a “trivial incident.”
The incident took place on Tuesday night in Ward No. 2 of Madhya Betagi in Rangunia Upazila.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannan, 60, a resident of the area.
Mohammad Belayet Hossain, assistant superintendent of police (Rangunia Circle), told bdnews24.com that Mannan had an argument with a neighbour named Mozammel on Tuesday afternoon. Later that night, Mozammel allegedly attacked Mannan with a sharp weapon and fled the scene.
“Relatives rescued Mannan and took him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” ASP Belayet said.
He added that police were trying to arrest Mozammel.
Abdullah Al Masud Munna, the deceased’s son, told bdnews24.com that Mozammel had been verbally abusing his father’s cousin on Tuesday afternoon.
“My father protested against it. At one point, Mozammel grabbed my father by the collar. The neighbours then intervened and settled the matter,” Munna said.
Claiming that there had been no previous dispute between their family and Mozammel, Munna said his father had essentially protested because Mozammel was verbally abusing his cousin."bdnews24
