BRAC to set up career hub at Islamic University

A ‘Career Hub’ will be established at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia to improve students’ employability and career prospects.

A primary discussion on the initiative was held at the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Monday morning between the university administration and BRAC’s Skills Development Programme (SDP).

The initiative aims to provide students with career guidance, skills development, job preparation and industry networking opportunities.

The university and BRAC SDP decided to sign a final Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on September 20.

IU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr A K M Motinur Rahman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Amtaz Hossain and Acting Registrar Prof Dr M Atiqur Rahman attended the meeting. BRAC SDP Manager Aliul Azim represented BRAC.

The proposed Career Hub will work as a one-stop support centre for students. Its services will include career counselling, skill and personality assessments, CV and cover letter preparation, job and interview support, language and digital skills training, internships and higher education guidance.

The hub will also support entrepreneurship and employer networking through ‘Know Your Employer’ sessions, career expos, recruitment drives, industrial visits and mock interviews.

Student mental health and well-being support will also be included in the initiative.

Earlier, the university formed a seven-member committee to implement the agreement between IU and BRAC Centre.

Prof Dr Kazi Mostafa Arif of the Department of Economics is the convener, while Prof Dr Jahidul Islam of the Department of Information and Communication Technology is serving as member secretary.
