West Indies Tests set Bangladesh up for another crucial WTC push

Bangladesh will have another important opportunity to strengthen their World Test Championship campaign when West Indies arrive for a two-match Test series at home next month.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed the itinerary on Tuesday, with the first Test scheduled at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur from October 28 to November 1. The second Test will be played in Sylhet from November 5 to 9. The West Indies will also play a three-day practice match from October 22.

The series comes at a significant point in Bangladesh's WTC campaign. After drawing their recent two-Test series against Australia 1-1, Bangladesh sit fourth in the standings and have six matches remaining in the current cycle.

That makes the West Indies series more than another home assignment. Two victories would give Bangladesh valuable points and strengthen their position in the race for a place in next year's WTC final.

Bangladesh have already shown they can challenge higher-ranked opponents in the current cycle. They defeated Pakistan in Mirpur and then recorded their first Test victory in Australia, underlining the progress of their red-ball side.

The West Indies, meanwhile, have struggled for consistency in the championship and remain among the lower-ranked sides. That could make the home series an opportunity Bangladesh cannot afford to waste.

With Mirpur providing the opening stage before the action moves to Sylhet, Bangladesh will enter the series with a clear objective: turn home advantage into maximum WTC points and keep their push for a maiden appearance in the championship final firmly on track.

For a team that has already made history in Australia this year, the next challenge is to build on that momentum at home.
