Three men arrested over the shooting death of businessman Sagar Khan alias Imran(38) at an auto-rickshaw garage in Dhaka’s Jatrabari have been placed on three-day remand each.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasan Shahadat passed the order on Wednesday after a hearing.
The accused are Riyazul Islam Riyaz alias Kalia Riyaz, Kamrul Hasan and Saiful Hossain. Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Khondkar Saleh Abu Naim had sought seven days remand for each.
According to the case, Imran had been facing a dispute with Riyaz and Kamrul over a Tk2 lakh extortion demand. On September 6, around 10:30pm, the accused allegedly entered his garage wearing helmets and armed with firearms and local weapons.
They allegedly opened fire, with Riyaz shooting Imran in the head from behind. When Imran’s friend Saddam tried to intervene, he was beaten and later shot in the left leg while attempting to flee. The attackers also allegedly hacked him with sharp weapons.
Locals took the two to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Imran dead.
The attackers allegedly fled with Tk1.8 lakh, a mobile phone and a motorcycle belonging to Imran and Tk65,000 and a mobile phone belonging to Saddam.
Imran’s wife filed a murder case with Jatrabari Police Station on September 7.
