President to visit Sylhet on Tuesday

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is set to visit Sylhet on Tuesday (September 15) for the first time since assuming office.

During his one-day visit, the president is scheduled to attend several programmes, including visits to the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA), and a civic reception organised by Sylhet City Corporation (SCC).

According to the official itinerary signed by Protocol Officer of the President’s Office Abul Kalam Md Lutfor Rahman, President Mirza Fakhrul will arrive at Osmani International Airport at 11:15 AM and then proceed to the Circuit House.

He will visit the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) at 12:30 PM and the shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) at 1:25 PM

At 3:30 PM, the president will attend a civic reception organised by the SCC in front of Nagar Bhaban.

He is scheduled to leave Osmani International Airport for Dhaka at 8pm the same day.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway across Sylhet ahead of the president’s visit. Arches have been erected and decorative lighting installed at various points in the city, while important roads and areas have been cleaned.

Special security measures have also been taken at the venues of the president’s programmes, along his travel routes and in other important areas.

On Sunday afternoon, SCC Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury inspected preparations and ongoing development work at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran (RA).

During the visit, he toured the shrine premises and took updates from officials on preparations being made by the city corporation for the president’s visit.

The SCC administrator said the city corporation regularly carries out development and renovation work at important establishments, including the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA), and that the work had been expedited ahead of the president’s visit.

The local administration has also strengthened overall preparations to ensure a smooth and secure visit.

The Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) held a coordination meeting on Saturday to review security arrangements. SMP Police Commissioner Sarwar Murshed Shamim chaired the meeting.

Members of the Special Security Force (SSF), President Guard Regiment (PGR), law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies have been assigned to ensure security during the president’s visit.
