Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced increases in salaries, honorarium and travel allowances for village police personnel, along with a new monthly mobile phone allowance.

He made the announcement while addressing a grand rally of village police as the chief guest at the National Parade Ground in the capital on Saturday.

Under the new pay structure, the monthly salary of a village police member has been raised by Tk 3,000, from Tk 7,500 to Tk 10,500. The salary of a village police chief has also been increased by Tk 3,000, from Tk 8,000 to Tk 11,000, the prime minister said.

The annual honorarium for village police personnel has been increased from Tk 70,000 to Tk 80,000, while that for village police chiefs has been raised from Tk 80,000 to Tk 1 lakh.

The travel allowance for village police chiefs has also been doubled from Tk 300 to Tk 600.
