BRAC Bank has won the Women in Business Champion Award at the Asian Development Bank's 12th Trade and Supply Chain Finance Program Awards in Singapore.

The award ceremony was held on September 8, recognising the bank's efforts to promote women's economic participation through access to finance, entrepreneurship support and women-focused banking services.

The recognition highlights the contribution of BRAC Bank's women banking proposition, TARA, particularly its SME Women Entrepreneur Cell led by Khadija Mariam.

Through financial solutions, advisory support and capacity-building initiatives, the cell supports women entrepreneurs in overcoming business barriers, formalising and expanding their enterprises, and creating employment opportunities, according to a press release.

Farhana Sharmin Sumi, Senior HR Business Partner, Retail Banking and Treasury, and Zakia Jalil, Head of Unit-2, Corporate, Commercial & Institutional Banking, received the award on behalf of the bank.

The award ceremony was attended by Asian Development Bank officials, including Keiko Nowcka, Director and Head of the Gender Equality Division; Steven Beck, Director and Head of the Trade and Supply Chain Finance Division; and Neha Noronha, Unit Head for South Asia within the Trade and Supply Chain Division.

BRAC Bank Managing Director and CEO Tareq Refat Ullah Khan said the recognition reinforced the bank's commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs and building an inclusive and resilient economy.

He said the bank's teams had worked to understand the challenges faced by women-led businesses and develop solutions to support their growth.

BRAC Bank said it remains committed to expanding women-focused financing and developing a support ecosystem to help women-owned businesses achieve sustainable growth.

The 12th annual awards programme brought together ADB's partner financial institutions in Singapore to recognise contributions to trade and supply-chain finance across Asia and the Pacific.
