Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Md Daud Ali will not be present in Tokyo during Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's official visit to Japan from October 26 to 29, as the decision has been made to keep him in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, Secretary (Bilateral Affairs) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Md Nazrul Islam has been dispatched to Tokyo on a special assignment to handle diplomatic matters and overall coordination during the Prime Minister's trip.
Nazrul Islam arrived in Japan on Wednesday. He will oversee bilateral affairs and serve as the key diplomatic coordinator in Tokyo throughout the Prime Minister's visit.
Earlier on October 15, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a letter recalling Ambassador Daud Ali to Dhaka for consultations regarding the tour. In compliance with the instruction to return within two days, he returned to Dhaka from Japan.
Although the ambassador was recalled to Dhaka ostensibly to discuss the visit, he was not included in the preparatory work for the Prime Minister's trip.
The absence of a sitting Bangladesh ambassador in a host country during a prime minister's visit remains an extremely rare occurrence in diplomatic practice.
