An Arab country to upgrade Israel ties; plans embassies

Israel and Morocco have agreed to advance their bilateral diplomatic relations by elevating their respective diplomatic missions to full embassies and appointing official ambassadors to each capital.

The agreement was finalized on Wednesday during a meeting between Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in New York, hosted by United States Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz.

In addition to diplomatic upgrades, both foreign ministers agreed to deepen economic and commercial collaboration, setting a target to conclude bilateral investment protection and double-taxation prevention treaties by the end of the current year.

A joint statement issued by the US Mission to the UN on behalf of all three nations highlighted that establishing peaceful, full, and friendly diplomatic relations serves the mutual interests of both countries while furthering regional peace stability.

Both nations confirmed plans to expand air connectivity by resuming direct commercial flights operated by national carriers alongside scheduling high-level official visits over the coming months.

The diplomatic development coincided with the sixth anniversary of the Abraham Accords framework originally brokered in 2020 during US President Donald Trump's first presidential term.
