A mysterious glowing object was spotted in the night sky over Tehran, sparking widespread public debate and comparisons to Iran's famous 1976 UFO sighting.
A strange, brightly illuminated object was seen floating and slowly moving across the night sky over the Iranian capital of Tehran, according to videos circulating on social media platforms.
The incident has reignited questions over whether the object was a UFO, a military drone, an aircraft, or a routine phenomenon.
Iranian authorities have not yet issued an official statement identifying the object seen in the viral footage.
The occurrence coincides with the anniversary of Tehran's famous September 19, 1976 UFO incident, which took place almost five decades ago.
The 1976 event began when residents of Shemiran reported a bright unidentified object in the sky, prompting the Imperial Iranian Air Force to scramble two F-4 Phantom fighter jets.
According to declassified US government reports, the first F-4 jet suffered instrument and communication failures as it approached the object, though systems resumed working once the aircraft turned away.
A second F-4 jet tracked the object on radar and reported a smaller glowing piece detaching from the main body, which temporarily jammed the jet's weapons control and radio systems.
The 1976 incident remains one of the most famous documented military encounters with unidentified flying objects in modern history.
Social media users offered varied theories regarding the recent footage, with some suggesting a military drone formation and others suspecting standard aircraft or extraterrestrial activity.
