Remittance inflow grows 13.6%, surpasses $8 billion in 23 days

Bangladesh received $8.022 billion in remittances between July 1 and September 23 of the current 2026-27 fiscal year, marking a 13.6 percent increase from $7.064 billion recorded during the same period last year.

According to Bangladesh Bank data, expatriate Bangladeshis sent $2.196 billion in remittances during the first 23 days of September, compared with $2.164 billion during the same period last year. This represents a 1.5 percent year-on-year increase.

The country received $62 million in remittances on September 23 alone.

Meanwhile, the Bangladeshi taka is currently at its strongest position against the US dollar in around five and a half years. Increased remittance inflows, improved foreign exchange liquidity and rising foreign currency reserves have eased pressure on the local currency and contributed to greater stability in the foreign exchange market.

According to the latest Bangladesh Bank report, the taka appreciated 0.06 percent against the dollar on a point-to-point basis between June 2025 and June 2026.

The taka gained a further 0.77 percent between August 30 and September 17 this year, with the dollar exchange rate falling from Tk 123.95 to Tk 123.

In 2021, the dollar was valued at Tk 85.80. The exchange rate subsequently rose steadily to Tk 123.95 before the trend began to reverse in the second half of this year.
