DNCC under ACC scanner 

ACC Public Relations Officer Aktarul Islam confirmed the development on Thursday.

According to the ACC, allegations have surfaced over irregularities in the procurement of mosquito control chemicals and equipment, the purchase of substandard and ineffective insecticides, and the wastage and misappropriation of public funds through various programmes lacking social or scientific validation.

The enforcement team visited the concerned department to verify the allegations and collected relevant documents and data during the operation. The commission will take further action after scrutinising the information gathered, an ACC statement noted.

The allegations also point to possible collusion among contractor syndicates, laboratory officials and locally influential individuals, through which public funds were allegedly misappropriated in mosquito control activities. Similar allegations have emerged against both the DNCC and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

Earlier on September 16, the ACC conducted an enforcement operation at the DSCC over allegations involving corruption worth hundreds of crores of taka. The allegations included supplying kerosene in place of mosquito-control insecticide, as well as illegal encroachment and extortion in household waste management.

The commission reportedly found preliminary evidence supporting some of the allegations during that operation.
Meanwhile, the ACC has launched another enforcement operation in Sylhet to probe allegations of corruption against certain officials and employees of Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited.

The ACC’s Integrated District Office in Sylhet is investigating allegations including the misappropriation of state funds through manipulation of customer payment records in billing ledgers.

The simultaneous operations reflect the commission’s continuing scrutiny of alleged irregularities in public procurement, municipal services and the handling of state funds.
