Two arrested over alleged attack on NSTU bus driver, vandalism

Two people have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a driver of a Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) bus and vandalising its side mirror following a collision with a motorcycle in Noakhali.

The incident took place at Sonapur Zero Point in Noakhali on Sunday morning.

The arrested men were riding the motorcycle. Their identities were not immediately available.

According to witnesses and those involved, NSTU bus driver Dileep Ravi Das was travelling from the university campus to Kabirhat as scheduled. When the bus reached Sonapur Zero Point, he was turning the vehicle after giving an indicator.

At that time, a motorcycle coming from the Kabirhat side allegedly hit the rear side of the bus.

A dispute broke out when the driver spoke to the motorcycle riders. The driver alleged that the two men assaulted him and later damaged one of the bus's side mirrors.

Dileep said one of the riders hit him several times with a key and kicked him after asking him to get off the bus. He also alleged that the bus helper was assaulted.

A toll collector at Sonapur Zero Point and a witness to the incident, said the bus was crossing the road after giving an indicator when the motorcycle, allegedly travelling at high speed, collided with its wheel.

He said the motorcycle riders later assaulted the driver and the helper. One of them then broke a side mirror of the bus.

Dileep later filed a complaint with Sudharam Model Police Station.

NSTU Transport Pool Administrator Dr Md Mofizur Rahman said the incident was unfortunate and that action had been sought against those responsible for the alleged assault on the university's driver and helper.

Sudharam Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Kamrul Islam said the police had received the complaint and arrested the two accused. A police officer has been assigned to investigate the incident.
