Three killed as truck hits auto in Lalmonirhat

Three people were killed and at least seven others injured in a crash between a truck and an autorickshaw in Burimari of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat on Monday morning.

The accident occurred around Monday morning in the Ghunti area of Burimari Union on the Burimari-Lalmonirhat highway.

locals said a passenger autorickshaw was heading towards Patgram from Burimari Land Port. When it reached the Ghunti area, a truck travelling towards Burimari Land Port from Patgram reportedly broke down due to a mechanical fault and collided head-on with the autorickshaw.

The truck then crashed into a roadside shop and ran over the autorickshaw, leaving two people dead on the spot and at least eight others injured.

Fire Service personnel from Patgram and locals rescued the injured and took them to Patgram Upazila Health Complex, where another injured passenger, identified as Mostakin, died.

Five of the injured were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition, while two others were admitted to Patgram Upazila Health Complex.

The identities of the deceased and injured could not immediately be confirmed. They are believed to be residents of Patgram upazila.

Patgram Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam confirmed the incident, saying police were sent to the scene after receiving the report. He said three people had been confirmed dead and seven injured so far.
