Lizard found in fish curry at NSTU's side restaurant

A lizard was allegedly found in a bowl of koi fish curry at Bismillah Restaurant and Kabab Ghar near the Pocket Gate of Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU).

Pharmacy Department student Mehraj, along with several others, reportedly found the lizard while having dinner at the restaurant around 10:30 PM on Sunday (September 27).

Mehraj said they immediately informed restaurant owner Zahid, who told them the lizard had fallen into the curry after cooking. He alleged that the incident raised concerns over food safety at restaurants around the university.

NSTU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said the university wants to ensure safe food for its students. He said the university would discuss the matter with the proctorial body, Student Counselling and Guidance Office and other authorities to determine what measures could be taken.

He said the university may also consult officials of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority to determine the applicable regulations.

However, restaurant owner Zahid said the incident was an unintentional mistake. He claimed that he had apologised to the students and said the lizard had fallen into the food from above while it was being kept at the restaurant.
