Ruling party patronises mob violence, alleges Dr Shafiq

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a donation of Tk 50 lakh for rebuilding the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, Dhaka, which was damaged in an attack involving vandalism and looting.

Jamaat Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Dr Shafiqur Rahman announced the assistance after visiting the damaged health centre at around 4:30pm on Monday.

“We will continue our initially announced assistance, Insha Allah. This is just the beginning, not the end,” he said.

Dr Shafiqur said Jamaat had decided to provide Tk 50 lakh to help restore the Radda MCH-FP Centre. He said the party would provide further assistance if necessary to ensure healthcare services for local residents.

“If necessary, we will do more for the healthcare of the people in this area, Insha Allah,” he said.

Speaking about the attack, vandalism and looting at the health centre, the Jamaat chief alleged that such a major incident could not have taken place without the “shelter and patronage” of the ruling party.

He, however, did not provide any specific information about individuals or incidents to substantiate the allegation.

“Whoever the perpetrators are, they should be brought under the law,” he said.

Expressing concern over the country's law and order situation, Dr Shafiqur urged the government to take immediate steps to prevent further incidents of criminal and anti-social activities.
He also alleged that incidents of mob violence were taking place across the country due to what he described as the shelter and patronage of the ruling party.

He called for legal action against those responsible for the incident at the Radda centre and urged the authorities to take steps to reopen the health facility as soon as possible.

The Radda MCH-FP Centre provides healthcare services to residents of the Mirpur area.

During the visit, Dr Mohammad Rezaul Karim, member of Jamaat's Central Executive Council and secretary of its Dhaka city unit, was present. Others present included Central Working Committee member and assistant secretary of the Dhaka city unit Mahfuzur Rahman; Central Majlis-e-Shura member and assistant secretary Dr Fakhruddin Manik; Central Majlis-e-Shura member and publicity and media secretary Ataur Rahman Sarker; and Dhaka city unit Working Committee members Nasir Uddin, Shah Alam Tuhin, Dr Moinuddin, GM Hafizur Rahman and Monirul Islam Mridha.
