Gold prices fall

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has reduced gold prices further in the local market. The price of 22-carat gold jewellery, the highest quality, has been cut by Tk 2,216 per bhori.

Under the new rates, a bhori of 22-carat gold jewellery will cost Tk 228,556, including VAT.

The new prices came into effect at 10:00 AM on Tuesday (September 29). BAJUS said the decision to reduce gold jewellery prices was made following a decline in the price of Tejabi gold in the local market.

According to the new rates, the price of a bhori of 22-carat gold jewellery has been reduced by Tk 2,216 to Tk 228,556, including VAT. Similarly, the price of 21-carat gold has been cut by Tk 2,099 to Tk 218,292 per bhori.

The price of 18-carat gold jewellery has been reduced by Tk 1,808 to Tk 187,440 per bhori. Meanwhile, the price of traditional-method gold jewellery has been cut by Tk 1,108 to Tk 153,148 per bhori.

Earlier, effective from 10am on September 28, BAJUS had reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,158 to Tk 230,772 per bhori, including VAT. At that time, the price of 21-carat gold was reduced by Tk 2,100 to Tk 220,391 per bhori.

The price of 18-carat gold was also cut by Tk 1,808 to Tk 189,248 per bhori, while traditional-method gold was reduced by Tk 1,808 to Tk 154,256 per bhori.

Meanwhile, BAJUS has also reduced silver prices in the local market. The price of 22-carat silver jewellery has been cut by Tk 175 to Tk 4,316 per bhori, including VAT. The price of 21-carat silver has also been reduced by Tk 175 to Tk 4,141 per bhori.

The price of 18-carat silver has been reduced by Tk 174 to Tk 3,558 per bhori, while traditional-method silver has been cut by Tk 116 to Tk 2,683 per bhori.

The latest reduction comes amid a series of cuts in gold prices. On September 26, the price of 22-carat gold jewellery was reduced by Tk 1,691 per bhori, followed by another Tk 2,158 cut on September 28.

With the latest reduction of Tk 2,216 on September 29, the price of 22-carat gold jewellery has fallen by a total of Tk 6,065 per bhori in three rounds since September 26.
