Bangladesh Bank has disconnected online payment gateway DGiPay from the National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSB) over security risks and allegations of unauthorised server access from India.
The decision was taken on October 29 following an inspection of DGiPay's office by a central bank team.
DGiPay officials said they learned about the disconnection through the media, adding that the central bank had not issued any formal notice. However, the company's other services remain operational.
Several senior Bangladesh Bank officials confirmed the move, saying an investigation into allegations against the company has begun. A final decision on its licence will be made based on the investigation findings.
Licensed as a Payment System Operator in August 2023, DGiPay Services Limited currently serves 600 to 1,000 merchants regularly. It is a subsidiary of Dipon Group.
