South Africa summons US ambassador for third time

South Africa has summoned US Ambassador Leo Brent Bozell III for the third time over alleged “undiplomatic conduct,” a senior government official told Reuters on Tuesday.

The official said Bozell was formally issued a diplomatic démarche for the third time since taking office nine months ago, but gave no details about the latest incident.

Tensions between the two countries have increased over US President Donald Trump’s claims about the treatment of white South Africans and Pretoria’s policies addressing racial inequality.

Bozell, appointed by Trump, was first summoned weeks after arriving in Pretoria in February over remarks South Africa said undermined its judiciary and historical context.
