bdnews24.com Editor-in-Chief and Publisher Toufique Imrose Khalidi passed away in London on Friday (October 2), according to multiple media reports.
Several journalists at bdnews24.com confirmed his death to Dhaka Post on Friday evening. He was a prominent figure in Bangladesh’s journalism and media industry and had served as the publisher and editor-in-chief of bdnews24.com since 2006.
Before launching bdnews24.com, Khalidi worked for a Bangladeshi broadsheet newspaper. He later worked with the BBC in the UK as a presenter, producer and editor.
He had experience across broadcast, print and digital journalism and covered business, politics, economics, development and international affairs.
Khalidi received a special honour under the National Information and Communication Technology Awards in 2017 in recognition of his contribution to Digital Bangladesh.
He also played a significant role in the development of online journalism in Bangladesh. Under his leadership, bdnews24.com began operating under new management in 2006 and established itself as a 24-hour online news service.
His age and the cause of his death were not immediately known.
