Chattogram District Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Masud Alam has urged everyone to remain vigilant against rumours, misinformation, and provocative information to ensure that the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja is celebrated in a peaceful, safe and festive atmosphere.

He made this call on Sunday during a views-exchange meeting held at the Civic Centre of the Chattogram District Police Lines with leaders of the Puja Celebration Committees from the district’s 17 police stations.

He said that if any rumours or misleading information come to notice, the police must be informed immediately. He also requested that the police be notified if anyone attempts to destabilise the situation through rumours or provocation.

Meanwhile, the meeting provided directives regarding the overall security of puja mandaps, unhindered movement for devotees, special security for women and children, the installation and maintenance of CCTV cameras, adequate lighting, backup power arrangements, the deployment of volunteers, and fire safety measures.

Emphasis was placed on promptly identifying and resolving issues faced by female devotees and ensuring special support systems for children. To maintain religious harmony, it was suggested that harmony committees be formed comprising representatives from various religions and professions, local religious leaders, public representatives, and law enforcement agencies. Calls were also made to adhere to prescribed sound limits and timeframes for loudspeaker usage, as well as to exercise special caution and sensitivity regarding the times of ‘Azan’ and prayers at mosques.

Among others, Md Sefaul Hossain, District Commandant of Bangladesh Ansar & VDP, Chattogram, senior officials of the district police, OCs of various police stations, and leaders of the Puja Celebration Committees were present on the occasion.
