The Enforcement Unit of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) raided the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) office in Dhaka on Tuesday to investigate alleged irregularities, syndication and corruption in the printing of free textbooks.

The team visited the NCTB office in Motijheel to examine allegations of confidential tender information being leaked and approximately Tk 252 crore in excess expenditure on textbook printing.

Confirming the operation, ACC Assistant Director Md Tanjir Ahmed said the team visited the NCTB to verify the allegations and examine relevant documents.

As part of the inquiry, the team collected copies of preliminary estimates, official price lists, minutes of the 423rd NCTB board meeting and other relevant records, he said.

The ACC will scrutinise the documents and submit a report to the Commission after completing its examination.

The inquiry comes amid allegations that irregularities in the tender process and excessive expenditure may have caused financial losses in the production of free textbooks distributed among students across the country.

The Enforcement Unit will determine whether the allegations have substance and whether any officials or other parties were involved in violations of procurement rules or financial regulations.
