The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) report that eight more people died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,860 patients were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease during the period.
DGHS regular dengue bulletin on Wednesday said that the death toll from dengue has reached 281 this year. Of them, 148 died in September alone.
In the first seven days of October, 44 people have died, while the monthly death toll was 43 in August, 36 in July, 13 in June and one in May. Two people each died of dengue in January and February.
The bulletin said 1,860 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country between 8am Tuesday and 8am Wednesday, taking the total number of hospitalisations this year to 92,216.
A total of 1,852 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery during the past 24 hours. So far, 86,152 patients have recovered and returned home.
