B'desh, Japan discuss boosting ties, alternative funding

The discussion took place during a bilateral meeting between Bangladesh Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama alongside Vice Finance Minister Mimura Atsushi on Friday, October 30.

The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere at the Japanese Finance Ministry office in Tokyo, according to Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Swadhin.

Both sides highlighted the longstanding economic relationship between the two nations and discussed ways to elevate their bilateral partnership to new heights.

Key topics included infrastructure development, trade expansion, foreign direct investment (FDI), and alternative financing arrangements to boost economic cooperation.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Investment and Capital Markets Tanveer Ghani, Special Assistant for Employment in the Asia-Pacific Region Shakirul Islam Khan, and senior officials from both countries attended the meeting.

Japan remains one of Bangladesh's primary development partners, financing numerous mega infrastructure and social development projects. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman returned home late Friday night following a four-day official visit to Tokyo that began on October 26.
