A mobile court in Ullapara of Sirajganj, fined six businesses a total of Tk 2.4 lakh for producing food products without labels in unhygienic conditions and selling counterfeit and unlabeled baby food.
The joint drive was conducted on Thursday afternoon by the upazila administration and the Sirajganj district office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection.
The operation was led by Ullapara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Raihanul Islam, who fined the businesses for various irregularities.
Among the fined establishments, Salp Kashem Ghol Matha Doi and Mishtanna Bhandar was fined Tk 1 lakh for producing unlabeled matha, ghol, ghee and curd in unhygienic conditions.
Abdul Khalek Khan, owner of Salper Ghol O Doi Ghar, was fined Tk 50,000, while the owner of Salp Ghol and Sadek Khan Doi Ghar was fined Tk 50,000. Abdur Razzak, owner of Salp Matha Ghol Doi Ghar, was fined Tk 10,000.
Besides, Shafiqul Islam, owner of Messrs Shafiqul Store, was fined Tk 10,000, while Shariful Islam, owner of Messrs Sharif Store, was fined Tk 20,000 for selling counterfeit and unlabeled baby food under the Consumer Rights Protection Act.
UNO Mohammad Raihanul Islam said the six businesses were fined a total of Tk 2.4 lakh for producing unlabeled matha, ghol, ghee and curd in unhygienic conditions and selling counterfeit and unlabeled baby food.
The owners were also warned against repeating such violations in the future.
The authorities also inspected gas cylinder suppliers and retail shops in Ullapara Bazar.
