Garment workers gathered outside the Deko Ajmiri Garments factory in Mirpur-11 on Wednesday (November 4) morning alleged they were subjected to a sudden police baton charge while attempting to discuss operational security with management, asserting they had not participated in any street demonstrations.

The incident unfolded amid a heightened security posture by law enforcement agencies across Dhaka following days of ongoing labor unrest over demands for a 30,000 BDT minimum wage.

Workers stated they assembled near the factory premises solely to converse with the Chief Executive Officer regarding whether the plant would remain open and to seek safe transit to and from their workplaces.

Asma, a female operator at Deko Ajmiri Garments, disputed allegations of unrest, stating, "We did not go to the streets to protest. We were simply managing our internal affairs and speaking with management about our schedules. Suddenly, police rushed in and began beating us. Why must we endure violence even when we are not demonstrating? Do we have no security?"

Bithi, a sewing operator, expressed dismay over indiscriminate police action affecting everyday commuters and residents, noting that officers targeted individuals attempting to cross roads or return home after factories declared unexpected midday closures.

Workers reported that several individuals sustained injuries during the dispersal, including a female worker who reportedly suffered a broken leg.

Eyewitnesses, including a local security guard, corroborated that the gathered workers remained orderly while awaiting administrative updates, noting that police intervened before any disturbance occurred.

Law enforcement personnel subsequently relocated their position toward the DESCO office in Mirpur-11, while distressed workers called for greater accountability regarding safe passage and worker protection.
