Pirojpur tops in dengue cases

Dengue has reached alarming levels in Pirojpur, which is reportedly recording the highest number of infections among the country's 64 districts, raising concerns over mounting pressure on local hospitals.

According to district health officials, a total of 3,623 dengue patients have been admitted to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital and health complexes across the district’s seven upazilas this year. Two patients have died from the disease, while 3,427 have recovered and returned home.

Over the past 24 hours, 61 new infections were reported, according to one set of figures provided in the report. Around 200 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals across the district.

The outbreak has triggered growing concern among patients and their relatives, particularly at Pirojpur Sadar Hospital, where limited space has reportedly forced dengue patients and those receiving treatment for other illnesses to stay in close proximity. Patients and their families have called for separate wards or rooms for dengue cases.

According to the district health department, 65 dengue patients are currently receiving treatment at Pirojpur Sadar Hospital, 34 at Nazirpur Upazila Health Complex, 32 in Nesarabad, 16 in Kawkhali, 36 in Bhandaria, six in Mathbaria and seven in Indurkani.
