LPG traders called off their two-day strike on Wednesday afternoon, resolving supply uncertainties across the country following a government warning of legal action.

The announcement came from the LPG Business Co-operative Society Limited on Wednesday afternoon following a high-level meeting at the Secretariat.

The decision was reached after government representatives met with LPG operators at the conference room of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources in the morning.

Addressing a joint press conference following the meeting, Energy Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir urged operators to withdraw the strike, warning of stern legal action under the 1956 Act if they failed to comply.

Energy Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud noted that global war conditions have created energy crises and price instability in international markets. He stated that the United States currently serves as the main sourcing point while other supply channels remain uncertain.

The minister warned that the government will not tolerate frequent strikes aimed at hiking commodity prices, assuring that all necessary steps will be taken to protect consumers and maintain stable supply lines.
Meanwhile, authorities decided to hold a public hearing on October 29 to review and fix LPG prices.
