A section of people is conspiring to tarnish the image of the country and the government, BNP Acting Secretary General and Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Thursday.

He said, "the government had taken comprehensive measures to ensure security during the upcoming Durga Puja and thwart any attempts to disrupt the celebrations."

Rizvi made the remarks while addressing the 29th annual prize-giving ceremony of Begum Hasiba High School in Nawabganj upazila of Dhaka as the chief guest.

He said, "the prime minister had repeatedly instructed the local administration to ensure security, while the party had formed a national committee to maintain communication with Puja committees."

Party leaders and activists had also been instructed to stay in regular contact with temple committees, arrange security patrols and help preserve the religious solemnity of the celebrations, he added.

Speaking about the importance of education, Rizvi said education was essential for economic self-reliance and described universal education as a fundamental birthright.

He praised freedom fighter Khandaker Shamsul Alam Pokhraj, a member of the school's founding family, for contributing to his local community despite his professional commitments.

Addressing local residents, Rizvi said MP Khandaker Abu Ashfaq was popular among people of different religious communities in the area and expressed hope that he would extend all-out cooperation to ensure a safe Durga Puja.

He also urged students to pursue education, sports and physical exercise to lead healthy and meaningful lives.

The programme was chaired by Khandaker Abu Hasan Sabuj, president of the school's ad hoc committee. Nawabganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Masud Rana and former school president Tahmina Adnan attended as special guests.
