Four teams set for Bangladesh's first Inter-Services Cycling Championship

Bangladesh will stage its first Inter-Services Cycling Championship this week, with more than 100 cyclists from four services set to battle for honours at the Army Stadium in Dhaka.

Organised by the Bangladesh Cycling Federation and sponsored by Fiona Luxury Resort, the two-day championship will be held on 16 and 17 October. Competition will begin at 8am on Friday.

Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh, Bangladesh Ansar-VDP and Bangladesh Jail will contest the championship, with 14 events on the programme.

The federation said the championship marks the first such inter-services cycling competition in the country. Unlike conventional road races, the meet will feature only track events, giving the participating riders an opportunity to test themselves in a more specialised format.

The event was announced at a press conference in Dhaka, where Bangladesh Cycling Federation general secretary Parvez Hasan and other federation officials outlined the plans.

The championship comes as the federation seeks to broaden competitive opportunities for cyclists across the country. Earlier this year, the federation had announced plans for an inter-services competition as part of its efforts to expand domestic cycling and provide riders with more regular competition.

With the starting gun due to fire on Friday morning, the inaugural championship promises two days of head-to-head racing as the four services go wheel-to-wheel for supremacy.
