An inquiry is currently underway into corruption allegations against former Youth and Sports Adviser and National Citizen Party (NCP) Spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director General Mohammad Nazmul Hasan said on Thursday.

Speaking at a media briefing, the ACC official confirmed the ongoing investigation to journalists.

According to sources, allegations have been raised against Asif Mahmud and 15 others regarding the embezzlement of Tk 2.26 crore through recruitment, promotion, and transfer trade-offs. In response, the ACC initiated an official inquiry into the matter on September 2.

Subsequently, on September 13, the anti-graft body revealed that a separate corruption allegation involving Tk 13,200 crore against Asif Mahmud was also under investigation. Both inquiries remain active.

The ACC Director General stated that joint investigative teams (JIT) are handling major corruption cases, with their activities closely and continuously monitored by the commission.

Answering a separate question from journalists, Nazmul Hasan noted that efforts are underway to repatriate former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, a process involving both the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He added that legal proceedings and case files concerning former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasan are progressing without interruption or delay.

Highlighting the commission's performance since the assumption of office by the current administration, the ACC reported that between August 20 and September 29, a total of 121 cases were filed, 61 charge sheets submitted, and 61 enforcement operations conducted, alongside one entrapment case.

During the same period, courts ordered the attachment and freezing of movable and immovable properties belonging to 68 individuals based on ACC applications, while travel bans were issued against 22 individuals facing allegations.
