The Local Government Division has allocated Tk 329 crore for projects nominated by members of parliament under the transport development assistance programme for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The allocation covers 3,253 union parishads across the country, with divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs), accounts officials and union parishad chairmen and administrators instructed to take necessary steps to ensure the release and proper use of the funds.
The information was disclosed in a letter recently issued by the Local Government Division’s Upazila Parishad-2 section.
According to the letter, the funds have been allocated under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) and must be spent on designated development projects nominated by MPs.
To release the funds, bills countersigned by the respective UNOs must be submitted to upazila accounts officers. The money will then be transferred to the bank accounts of the respective union parishads in accordance with existing financial rules.
Union parishad chairmen and administrative officers will jointly withdraw the funds and maintain expenditure records.
The letter instructed the authorities to follow the Union Parishad Development Assistance Management Guidelines 2021, Public Procurement Rules 2008 and other applicable financial regulations while implementing the projects.
It also warned that officials responsible for approving payments would be held personally accountable for any irregularities in the use of the funds.
Any unspent money must be returned to the government treasury by June 30, 2027, the letter said.
The letter, signed by Local Government Division Senior Assistant Secretary Atikul Islam, was sent to the relevant offices for information and necessary action.
