RANGPUR, Oct 18: Bangladesh presented two research papers at the 16th Coalition for Global Hearing Health Conference 2026, held in Chennai, India, from October 9 to 11, highlighting challenges in hearing healthcare and rehabilitation services in the country.
A six-member delegation from the Society of Speech and Language Therapists (SSLT), Bangladesh’s national professional organisation for speech and language therapists, attended the conference.
The three-day conference was held at the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research in Tamil Nadu, bringing together researchers, clinicians and experts from 27 countries to discuss hearing and communication health, according to a press release.
Dr Darez Ahmed, secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Tamil Nadu government, attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest.
Representing SSLT, Nargis Jahan and Satia Munthaha presented two separate research papers focusing on hearing healthcare and rehabilitation services in Bangladesh. The studies examined parents’ beliefs and attitudes towards children with hearing impairments, public awareness of hearing-related issues, and the existing service infrastructure in specialised schools.
The presentations provided an opportunity to highlight Bangladesh’s challenges in hearing healthcare and rehabilitation before the international research community.
The other members of the delegation were Md Wakil Ahad, Masuma Suraiya, Md Rakib Hossain and Shahriar Hossain Rishad. They exchanged clinical experiences with international experts and gained insights into modern technologies and global developments in hearing healthcare.
