FENI, Oct 19: The Sarail region of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized drugs and other smuggled goods worth about Tk 957 crore in operations along the region’s border areas from January through October 15, 2026, the BGB said on Sunday.

The operations also yielded a range of firearms, ammunition and explosives. Authorities arrested 333 people in anti-drug operations, according to a media briefing organised by the Feni Battalion (4 BGB) under the supervision of the Cumilla Sector, representing 13 battalions in the Sarail Region.

Lt Col Md Hasibul Islam, Director and Commander of the Feni Battalion, presented the findings.

According to BGB data, the seizures included 11 pistols, nine magazines, seven air guns, five pipe guns and 62 rounds of ammunition. Security personnel also recovered about 19 kilograms of high explosives, 117 detonators and 77 metres of detonator cord.

The drug haul included 3,40,185 yaba tablets, 14,967 kilograms of hemp, 63,575 bottles of foreign liquor and beer, 16,880 bottles of Phensedyl and Eskuf syrups, 4,32,510 tablets of various sexual stimulants and 210 litres of locally distilled liquor.

The 333 people arrested in connection with anti-drug operations face legal action, BGB said.

In separate operations to protect natural resources and prevent illegal extraction, the force seized 16,800 cubic feet of stone and 8,200 cubic feet of sand.

The Sarail Region oversees about 1,204 kilometres of border under four sectors, with 13 battalions conducting round-the-clock surveillance and patrols. Intelligence gathering and regular operations are being used to combat cross-border crime, the force said.

Beyond border security, BGB also provides food, medical care and essential medicines to people affected by natural disasters. Relief operations in remote and flood-hit areas use modern technology to deliver assistance, according to the statement.

In a press release signed by Lt Col Md Hasibul Islam, BGB said its operations would continue to protect national sovereignty, combat border crime, prevent drug trafficking and smuggling, and maintain public safety.
