Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has extended financial assistance to Ankhi, a pregnant woman who reportedly considered selling her unborn child due to poverty and mounting debt.

A recent media report said Ankhi was expecting her third child, while her husband had been suffering from a prolonged illness. Struggling to cover medical and household expenses, the family had fallen into debt.

After seeing the report, the prime minister instructed his Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon to contact the family and assess their situation. They were reached within an hour.

On Sunday, Ankhi and her family were invited to the Prime Minister's Office, where they received a cheque for Tk 1 lakh. The prime minister also assured them of covering all delivery expenses and helping arrange employment.
