Seven beautiful Bengali words

Being a Bengali, one can definitely vouch for the fact that they love addas or gossiping for hours in a language that is often considered the sweetest language. Sometimes, even cursing in Bengali sounds sweet and it does not offend others.  Seven of the Bengali words that add sweetness to the language are:

Shundor
Meaning beautiful, this word is often used to compliment people. Other English translation of the word might include pretty, fine and lovely. The beauty of the word is that it is not used only to attribute people but praise anything and everything. For example: Shundor ghor (beautiful house), Shundor jaama (beautiful dress), Shundor paakhi (beautiful bird), etc.  The meaning of the word surely does justice to it!

Golpo
Every time we use the word golpo, we make stories and tales. Golpo means stories.  From little kids to adults, everyone loves stories. Some love creating them or others love listening to them. We loved it when our grandparents or elders told us stories when we were little kids. We would go to them and tell them 'ekta golpo bolo'.  From a very young age, this word is dear to us.

Boka
The word is often used to describe someone who is fool or an imbecile. But if the word sounds so sweet to the ears, who would ever get offended? If a non-Bengali hears it, he or she will have a hard time figuring out that it is actually a cursing word. In fact, they might think they are being complimented. Such is the trick of the language.

Chomotkar
When you look at something in wonder you say chomotkar. This may mean both positive and negative at the same thing. For example: one can look at the traffic jam of Dhaka in sarcastic way and say, "Ki chomotkar jam." However, chomotkar is used to describe something magnificent too such as, the magnificent sky, river, place, etc.

Haashi
A simple smile or laughter --- Haashi can be used to define both.  The way it adds beauty to the face adds beauty to the language in the same way. Synonym of 'haashi' is 'khushi' and they are often used together like 'hashi-kushi'. Everyone loves a 'haashi-khushi' person and the word is loved by all too.  With a simple 'haashi' one can change anything. Such is the power of it.

Cholo
This has to be the most used word by Bengali people and it has its reasons. It means 'let us go'. Do we not Bengalis love pushing people? It is another way to tell people keep going.  No matter how rudely you use cholo it sounds cute anyway. The interesting thing about cholo is you include yourself too when you say 'cholo', which means you are tagging along too. It does have a sense of compassion in it, isn't it?

Raag
'Raag' means anger or rage.  The word sounds regal to the ears, it sounds heavy, and so does its meaning. We do not want to face other people's anger, but we do not avoid using this beautiful word as much as we should have. Sometimes we use it in a light way, when our loved ones show a very minimal amount of rage. No one can keep being on angry after they hear the sweet phrase "Raag korona."
These are few of the Bengali words that are dear to us. However, there are more which we love and adore.  The warmth that this language has is very much similar to the warmth of Bengali people's hearts.
