Bangladesh fought gamely but India proved too strong in the final, winning 28-16 to clinch the Begum Khaleda Zia IHF Nations Trophy title at the National Handball Stadium in Paltan, Dhaka on Thursday.
India, who completed an unbeaten campaign in the four-nation women's tournament, pulled away after leading 14-9 at half-time to deny the hosts a home triumph.
Bangladesh matched their taller opponents in the opening exchanges, keeping the contest on an even keel for the first 10 minutes. However, India gradually seized the initiative, using their physical advantage and attacking efficiency to build a five-goal cushion before the break.
The hosts struggled to find their rhythm after the restart as India tightened their grip on the match. Despite creating several scoring opportunities, Bangladesh repeatedly came up against goalkeeper Diksha Kumari, whose crucial saves blunted their attempts to mount a comeback. Her outstanding performance earned her the player-of-the-match award, while compatriot Bhawana Sharma was named player of the tournament.
For Bangladesh, the defeat was their second against India in the competition, following a 47-13 loss in the league phase. Ana Alonso Fragua's side had otherwise impressed, beating Nepal and the Maldives to secure their place in the final.
India's victory completed a clean sweep of the tournament, while Nepal claimed the bronze medal after defeating the Maldives on Wednesday.
The final was followed by a cultural programme, after which State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin presented the prizes.
Bangladesh Handball Federation president Major General Abu Mohammad Sarwar Farid, general secretary Salahuddin Ahmed and tournament committee coordinator S M Khalequzzaman Swapan were also present.
