US President Donald Trump has claimed that his threat to impose tariffs of up to 250 per cent on India and Pakistan helped stop their military conflict in May 2025.

Speaking at an election rally in Florida on Friday, Trump said he had stopped eight “wars” since taking office on January 20, 2025.

“I stopped India and Pakistan. Two nuclear powers—I stopped them,” he said, claiming both countries halted fighting after he threatened massive trade tariffs.

Trump also expressed disappointment at not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for his claimed diplomatic achievements.

India has repeatedly denied third-party intervention in the ceasefire, saying it followed a request from Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations. Pakistan, however, has acknowledged Trump's role.

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, targeting what it described as terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Pakistan responded with Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos on May 8. Both countries halted military operations under a ceasefire on May 10.
