Gunshot hits singer Asif’s empty car in Moghbazar

Singer Asif Akbar’s private car was hit by a gunshot in Moghbazar on Saturday morning. However, he was not inside the vehicle at the time.

The incident occurred at around 4:45am in front of Bishal Centre, said Hatirjheel Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Asaduzzaman.
Police suspect that one person was involved in the incident. The suspect arrived in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, fired at the car and fled. However, the suspect’s identity was not immediately established.

Ibn-e-Mizan, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon Division, said no one was inside the car at the time of the shooting. Asif Akbar was at a studio on the third floor of Bishal Centre, while the shots were fired at the seat behind the driver.

Police are trying to collect footage from surveillance cameras in and around Bishal Centre. Officers from Hatirjheel Police Station visited the scene after receiving information about the incident.

Asif’s elder brother, Anis Akbar, said, “As citizens of an independent country, we cannot expect such incidents to happen.” He said the most important task now was to uncover the motive behind the attack and identify those involved. He urged law enforcement agencies to take the necessary steps in this regard.
