US President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen close to a record low ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Monday (November 2).
Only 32 per cent of respondents approved of his performance. Meanwhile, 46 per cent said they would vote for Democratic candidates, compared to 38 per cent for Republicans.
Although Trump is not on the ballot, he has urged supporters to vote for Republicans, warning that Democrats could seek to impeach him for a third time if they regain control of Congress.
Trump’s popularity has declined amid rising fuel prices and concerns over inflation and the economy, particularly following the Iran-US-Israel conflict.
He wrapped up a month-long campaign with a rally at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC, on Monday.
Trump acknowledged that Republicans might struggle in the midterms, saying incumbent presidents usually lose seats in such elections.
