Ed Sheeran reveals how an evening at Mannat led to Bollywood debut

British singer Ed Sheeran is making his Bollywood debut with Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film ‘King’, lending his voice to the song ‘Tu Mila Jaye’, which also features Arijit Singh.

In a recently shared video on social media, Sheeran revealed how an evening at Shah Rukh’s Mumbai residence, Mannat, led to the collaboration.

The singer had visited Mannat to ask Shah Rukh to make a cameo appearance in the music video for ‘Sapphire’, his song with Arijit Singh. During their meeting, Shah Rukh suggested that Sheeran sing for his next film.

Sheeran said he met music composer Jigar Saraiya, one half of the musical duo Sachin-Jigar, during the gathering. Later that night, he wrote and recorded his part for ‘Tu Mila Jaye’.

Sheeran said his friendship with Shah Rukh had grown over time and that he was delighted to work on the project. He described working with Shah Rukh and Arijit as an opportunity to collaborate with people he admires.

Shah Rukh also thanked Sheeran, particularly for singing the Hindi portions of the song. Jigar Saraiya praised Sheeran’s version while promoting the track.

‘Tu Mila Jaye’ was released on November 2 to mark Shah Rukh’s birthday.

Salman Khan also extended birthday wishes to Shah Rukh, writing, “Happy birthday Shah Rukh. Stay young always, The King.” Shah Rukh responded jokingly that Salman’s praise had encouraged him to focus more on fitness.

‘King’ is scheduled for release on December 24. The film will reunite Shah Rukh with Deepika Padukone and also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Suhana Khan and Abhay Verma.
