Dear Sir,
LPG cylinders have become indispensable in urban households, yet their soaring prices are placing an unbearable burden on ordinary consumers, particularly low- and middle-income families. Amid rising commodity prices, repeated increases in cooking gas costs have made daily life increasingly difficult. Many households are being forced to turn to firewood or kerosene, which pose serious risks to health and the environment.
Importers, middlemen and alleged market syndicates are exploiting international market conditions to raise prices arbitrarily. Consequently, consumers often cannot find LPG cylinders at government-fixed rates, while retailers charge considerably more. Meanwhile, the incomes of low-income earners have hardly increased.
I urge the government to dismantle these syndicates, strengthen regular market monitoring and ensure sales at official prices. It should also reduce import dependence, explore alternative energy sources and consider subsidies to make cooking gas affordable.
